Cultural Awareness in Dementia Care (Weblink)

This NADRC webinar sharea information on the Minnesota Board on Aging’s “Cultural Awareness in Dementia Care” initiative designed to promote principles of health equity and enhance person-centered dementia care for diverse ethnic and cultural communities who have the highest health disparities. This program strives to create cultural awareness among service providers that will result in culturally responsive service to persons with dementia and their caregivers.

This web seminar shares the program’s design and steps for implementation through American Indian and Somali cultural consultants.
Participants in this web seminar will be able to:

• Cite two or more norms and values of American Indian and Somali cultural groups regarding dementia;
• Identify ways in which they can promote person-centered planning that incorporates cultural norms; and,
• Describe how to use a cultural consultant to enhance service delivery.

Advance Planning for People with Dementia: Legal Services Voucher Program in Delaware and New Consumer Planning Guides (WebLink)

The Advance Planning for People with Dementia: Legal Services Voucher Program in Delaware and New Consumer Planning Guides webinar focuses on how the Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD) developed their legal services voucher program, as well as the legal training seminar for Delaware’s attorneys that took place before program roll-out.

A new series of consumer guides, developed by the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center, are also reviewed. These guides cover advance-planning topics and are designed specifically for people with dementia.
